New Wedding Planner Question

 

Hi Donnie, I love your show. I am working on my courses at this time to become a wedding and event planner. I had thought about doing this two years ago however wasn’t quite sure. You have totally inspired me, I have planned so many events in the past several years for family and friends, and loved every part of it, although without pay of course. My question is when would a planner get paid? Would it be installments during the time with a client, or after the event? Do you ask, or is it proper to ask for a deposit? What is proper, and most popular?

Cynthia:
There is no set of requirements for how payments work. However I can tell you how we do it with my company.  We require half of the minimum in a down  payment with the balance of the minimum after a few months and a final installment to be due no less than thirty days in advance of the wedding based on a percentage of the wedding budget.  I hope you do well with your new career and keep watching the show!
