Feathery, flirty, fun and, sometimes questionable are these fascinating creations we call fascinators. That they are! For they accomplish the mission they set out do whether you agree with their construction or not. Fascinators are generally worn at weddings and premium horse-racing events such as the Royal Ascot. Style icon, Sarah Jessica Parker who played Carrie in Sex and the City rocked one on the day she was supposed to have married her long time love, Mr. Big. Of course, if you followed the script, the wedding never materialized, but Carrie carried herself well, proving that you can be the jilted bride with impeccable yet, fascinating style.

Philip Treacy is synonymous with those addicted to these marvelous marvels. Born in West Ireland, Treacy moved to Dublin to study fashion at the National College of Art & Design. Hat making was a hobby he married with the outfits he designed. Let’s just say that his ‘hat-making hobby’ has proven to be quite lucrative. The famous fascinator guru designed hats for Alexander McQueen’s white Haute Couture collection at Givency in Paris. Thirty-six of Treacy’s hats adorned the heads of attendees of Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s April 29, 2011 wedding. Heads turned and, cameras flashed as Princess Beatrice made her grand entrance in her Philip Treacy’s bow/pretzel fascinator as seen in the above image.

Personal style has always been an assured vehicle for women to express their personality. I am of the mind that a dose of simplicity and a pinch of ‘fascination’ goes a long way. Although not highly popular States side, fascinators are a sure way of communicating your inner alter ego – you know, the one that doesn’t shy away from being in your face, FIERCE! Victoria Beckham has never needed a platform or special occasion to look fierce, so it’s no wonder she made headlines with her Philip Treacy headpiece at The Royal Wedding.

We all know Lady Gaga’s style is somewhat outlandish and, this is why we are so fascinated with her. I’m not sure that anyone outside of Gaga herself would be able to pull off this Philip Treacy telephone-shaped piece. Don’t let this discourage you from experimenting with these delicacies. Ultimately, fascinators are statement pieces to be worn by those wanting to do just that. Designers have crafted one for each taste bud. Even if the headpieces do not appeal to you, look into Treacy’s bridal shoe collection that is just has delicate, fun, and flirty. Overall, if you choose to wear these fascinating finds, have fun with your style knowing your goal was to leave tongues wagging and minds boggled with fascination!
